$4 Snowglobe Craft

The holiday's are right around the corner and that also means gifts. Now I personally love making things and giving something that has meaning rather than just buying a cheap bath set or pair of socks from the store. This year even more than ever with being at home more it's a perfect time to get a little crafty and make some presents!

What's great about this project is that it's easy to make and recycles an old jar or container. For the jar there are actually several things you could use. I ended up using an empty salsa jar but you could also use a nut or seed butter jar, old candle, jelly or jam containers or you can buy mason jars from the dollar store.

In total this project cost us about $4 to make but we have extra materials that we can use to easily make one or two more snowglobes. Therefore this is an extremely affordable craft that can make a super cute gift on a tight budget.

All of the materials that I used besides my glue gun were bought at my local Dollar Tree store. I found these bags of faux snow (basically small styrofoam balls), packs of two snow-covered trees and there's several different packs of holiday village characters. I picked this set with the snowman because my daughter really wanted to use him for our snowglobe.

What you will need:

  • Empty jar

  • Small trees

  • Small figures

  • Fake snow

  • Glue gun

  • Ribbon or craft mesh

Directions:

1) Make sure you clean the jar thoroughly and take the lid off- no one likes a dirty, foggy snowglobe.

2) Place the lid upside down on a table and using the hot glue gun attach your mini tree, characters and any other elements you want inside the snowglobe to the lid.

3) Using the hot glue gun add a layer or fake snow to the lid creating a snowy ground for your scene. You can also use white fabric or a small piece of white felt. Make sure you leave space around the inner edge of the lid so you can attach the jar towards the end.

4) Pour fake snow into the jar. We filled ours about 1/4 of the way but you can add more or less depending on how snowy you want the snowglobe to be.

5) Carefully attach the lid to the jar. Then using either ribbon or a craft mesh wrap the bottom of the snowglobe or the lid covering it completely. Attach bows or embellishments if you would like. We added a small snowflake ornament to the top for some added sparkle.

This is a great craft for kids to do and it's perfect to give as a simple gift to someone this holiday season. Pair this snowglobe with some candy, put a bow on it and you have a basic yet thoughtful gift.
